Iran targets U.S. base in Qatar
The escalation in the region intensified this evening, with U.S. bases coming under missile attacks launched from Iran, targeting the Al Udeid base in Qatar. This led to the activation of air defense systems.
Reuters reported the activation of air defense systems at the Ain Al Asad base in Anbar province, western Iraq, as U.S. forces stationed at Iraqi bases entered shelters, according to Al Arabiya’s correspondent.
In a concurrent development, the sound of explosions was heard in the skies over the Qatari capital, Doha, as confirmed by both AFP and Reuters.
For its part, the American platform Axios revealed that Iran launched six missiles at U.S. bases stationed in Qatar. Iranian state television announced the start of "Operation Portents of Victory" against the Al Udeid Air Base, one of the most prominent U.S. military headquarters in the Gulf region.
