Over the course of decades, Syrian Kurds have accumulated a range of issues related to identity, citizenship and equality as a result of policies ranging from the exceptional census, the Arab Belt and Arabization policies to restrictions on the Kurdish language and culture, as well as political repression and arrests. With the outbreak of the 2011 revolution, the Kurdish issue entered a new phase, during which Kurds emerged as an active party in the course of events.

The fig season in the Homs countryside continues to serve as a seasonal source of income and a key component of rural families’ food supplies, despite the challenges farmers have faced this year, including fruit drop, delayed ripening and the emergence of pests. Preliminary estimates by the Homs Directorate of Agriculture put production at around 1,054 tonnes, most of it from rain-fed farming.

The “For Feminism” organization said women’s representation in Syria’s transitional government and decision-making positions remains low and largely symbolic, stressing that the figures do not reflect the capabilities and qualifications of women in Syria. It called for guaranteeing women’s rights through a clear constitution and legislation.
