Cautious calm, over 10 injured after overnight clashes in Sweida countryside

Clashes involving heavy weapons and mortar shells continued until dawn today in the western countryside of Sweida, amid ongoing security tensions between the Internal Security Forces and the “National Guard,” particularly along the fronts of Walgha, Rima Hazem and Tal Hadid.

A cautious calm currently prevails in the western countryside of Sweida, with intermittent bursts of gunfire heard from time to time.

The Internal Security Forces Command in Sweida province said that 10 of its personnel were injured after its positions in the Tal Hadid area and Walgha front came under attack.

The developments come amid continued security tensions in the western countryside of Sweida, where exchanges of fire between the Internal Security Forces and the “National Guard” broke out in the early evening yesterday. Heavy weapons and mortar shells were used during the clashes, which continued until the early hours of today.

According to reports, the clashes also resulted in injuries to several civilians, although no precise information is currently available regarding their number or the nature of their injuries.

Parts of the Sweida countryside are witnessing escalating security tensions amid continued fighting between the two sides, raising concerns that the clashes could spread and affect civilian movement and the security of villages and surrounding areas.
