A Syrian writer stated that what happened in Syria was not liberation in the true sense, but rather the end of an authoritarian era that lasted more than five decades, while the foundations for building a safe and stable state remain incomplete. He believes that the recent wave of crimes, assassinations, and kidnappings has shattered the hopes pinned on the post-regime phase after long years of war, destruction, and displacement.
