General strike in E. Kurdistan over execution sentences for Bakhshan and Warisha

At the call of six political parties, a general strike has begun in East Kurdistan to protest the execution ruling against Kurdish activists Bakhshan Azizi and Warisha Moradi.

The people of East Kurdistan responded to the calls for a general strike, protesting the death sentences issued against the two Kurdish activists imprisoned in Iranian jails. Markets and shops witnessed an almost complete shutdown.

Six political parties and entities had called for the general strike across East Kurdistan on January 20, in response to the execution ruling against Bakhshan and Warisha.

Activists, human rights defenders, families of political prisoners and victims of the "Woman, Life, Freedom" uprising, students, and political parties in East Kurdistan have demanded the abolition of the death sentences issued against the two imprisoned Kurdish activists.

Iran’s Supreme Court approved the execution ruling against activist Bakhshan Azizi on December 8, as announced by her lawyer, Amir Raesian. This decision sparked widespread anger and rejection, particularly among women, who called for the ruling to be overturned and for Bakhshan’s immediate release.
