On Saturday, the High Election Commission in North and East Syria revealed the lists of candidates for the municipal elections, numbering 5,331 male and female candidates. 

27 parties and organizations are running as two coalitions (the People's and Women's Alliance for Freedom), consisting of 22 parties and organizations, and the (Together for Better Services) coalition, consisting of 5 parties, and 3 parties independently: (the Syrian National Democratic Alliance Party, and the Kurdish Democratic Unity Party in Syria (Yekiti), the National Democratic Development and Change Party), and many independents in the municipal elections.

According to the electoral law, male and female candidates have the right to begin electoral campaign today, May 26, and end at 18:00 on June 10.

The Municipal Elections Law, in accordance with Article 25 of the law, which includes freedom of electoral campaign, stipulates the following:

1- Advertising in municipal elections is free in accordance with the provisions of this law.

2- Electoral campaign begins 20 days before election day, and ends at 18:00 on the day before election day. 

3- Electoral campaigns will be only in places designated by the Cantons committees.

4- The canto  commission committees determine the squares in which oral electoral campaign can be carried out collectively, in a way that does not lead to disruption of traffic and shopping.

5- The Elections Committee in cities and towns determines the areas, days, hours, and times for holding meetings, and notifies the Internal Security Forces, upon the request of political parties and independents to carry out oral electoral campaign.

6- Closed meetings may be held in the name of political parties or independent candidates participating in the elections.

Article 26 of the same law also stipulates:

1- Political parties and independent candidates participating in the elections have the right to open electoral offices to carry out electoral work in the electoral cantons in which they participate, after notifying the Commission of the address of their electoral office and the name of the person responsible for it.

2- Buildings and facilities belonging to professional organizations, public institutions, associations, cooperative federations and unions cannot be used for this purpose.

The Municipal Elections Law also specifies, in accordance with Article 27, places for electoral campaign, which are as follows:

1- Political parties and independent candidates may hang and paste party flags, banners, posters and similar materials on electoral offices, from the date of the start of electoral propaganda until the end of the electoral propaganda period.

2- Political parties and independent candidates may, from the start of the electoral campaign period until its end, hold open and closed meetings; They have the right to use flags, banners, posters, advertisements and advertising materials, and to hold parties, in electoral propaganda.

3- With the exception of the places mentioned above, election materials may not be hung and pasted except in places specified by the Commission’s committees in cities and towns, and anyone who violates will face a fine of one million Syrian pound.

4- Candidates must remove everything related to electoral propaganda within a period not exceeding fifteen days from the date of announcing the election results. In the event of non-compliance, the Commission Committee, in coordination with the municipality, will remove it at the expense of the candidates.
