According to the same source, the Commander-in-Chief of the Syrian Democratic Forces and intermediary among the parties, Mazloum Abdi, will announce the date of the conference.

Since 2012, Kurdish parties, organizations, institutions, and figures in Rojava have been discussing the issue of unity and the formation of a unified political stance. These discussions have at times intensified and at other times slowed, depending on the prevailing developments, but they have remained ongoing.

The rapid developments in Syria and the region—particularly following the fall of the Baath regime—have once again brought this issue to the forefront, becoming a top priority for the Kurdish people.

Based on this context, Kurdish parties, organizations, and independent figures resumed negotiations last November, placing the convening of a national conference and the formation of a unified political position at the top of their agenda. A preparatory committee was formed to that end, comprising representatives from political parties, organizations, and independent personalities.

The committee held meetings with various parties, engaged in discussions, and gathered opinions and feedback. As a result of these efforts, a joint stance emerged in support of holding the conference. However, the path to this point was not without difficulty.

There had been numerous opinions and disagreements regarding the timing of the conference. Each time a date was proposed, new obstacles arose, leading to repeated postponements. On several occasions, parties exchanged blame and accusations, citing various reasons. While some of these matters were reported in the media, the more detailed discussions occurred behind the scenes, where internal and external challenges—ones the involved parties preferred not to disclose publicly—were assessed.

The ongoing delays in convening the conference sparked public dissatisfaction and criticism, placing pressure on the relevant parties to expedite their meetings. As a result of intensive negotiations held at the beginning of this year, an agreement was reached at the start of this month to hold the conference, and it was subsequently scheduled for April 18.

Officials attributed the delay to technical reasons, though they did not disclose specific details.

Following the postponement, discussions resumed and opinions diverged. Some believe that unresolved disagreements among the parties remain, while others anticipate that the conference will be held soon. The sources who provided this information chose to remain anonymous, but the debate continues.
