HASAKA

The Internal Security Forces arrested the dangerous ISIS mercenary Ibrahim Abd Abdullah, known by the alias “Abu Al-Adhraa,” during the ongoing security operation that began on April 18 inside Al-Hol Camp, located in north of Hasaka. The camp is considered one of the most dangerous hotspots for ISIS cells.

He belongs to a family with close ties to al-Qaeda and ISIS mercenaries

Ibrahim Abd Abdullah descents from Nineveh Province in Iraq and is 40 years old. He comes from a family with strong ties to extremist groups. His older brother, Ahmed Abdullah, joined al-Qaeda early on before moving to ISIS ranks and was recently killed in the Seven Villages area of Deir ez-Zor countryside during clashes with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

Following in his brother’s footsteps, Ibrahim joined ISIS in 2015 after years of being indoctrinated with extremist ideology. He played a critical and complex role within the organization, conducting ideological and military training courses for new recruits in Iraq for over two years, reflecting his high status and the trust placed in him by ISIS leaders.

From Iraq to Syria

As ISIS gained control over large areas in Iraq and Syria, Ibrahim and his family moved frequently. They initially stayed in the Al-Ba’aj area in Iraq for over six months before relocating to the town of Al-Dashisha in the southern countryside of Hasaka.

After the SDF intensified operations against ISIS, Ibrahim participated in a mass escape of ISIS remnants from conflict zones and reached the town of Al-Baghuz, the group’s last stronghold in eastern Deir ez-Zor.

From Al-Baghuz to Al-Hol… Suspicious activities and internal killings

Following ISIS’s territorial defeat in Al-Baghuz in 2019, Ibrahim infiltrated Al-Hol Camp with his family, exploiting humanitarian sympathy to conceal his identity, a strategy used by dozens of former ISIS members who settled in the camp.

While in Al-Hol, Ibrahim did not abandon his extremist mindset. He was involved in the assassination of a camp resident known as “Abu Ibrahim” in a joint operation with other active ISIS cells. The camp continues to witness an increase in killings, recruitment, and threats against civilians.

The security operation and his arrest

As part of the wide-scale security operation launched by the Internal Security Forces and the Women’s Protection Units (YPJ), supported by the SDF on April 18, 2025, a special operation was conducted in one sector of Al-Hol Camp. It led to the arrest of Ibrahim Abd Abdullah after confirming his identity and documenting his movements and activities within the camp.

The end of a terrorist journey… But the threat remains

The arrest of “Abu Al-Adhraa” is a major blow to ISIS remnants in Al-Hol Camp, which remains a regional and international security threat due to the density of active cells within it. Security authorities have confirmed that this operation is not the last but rather the beginning of a series of security and intelligence efforts aimed at eliminating sleeper cells in the camp.

According to Internal Security Forces sources, investigations are ongoing with Ibrahim Abd Abdullah, and they may reveal sensitive information related to ISIS cells and their recruitment and support networks both inside and outside the camp.
