The spiritual leader of the Unitarian Muslim Community, Sheikh Hikmat Salman Al-Hijri, expressed his deep concern about the ambiguity and uncertainty prevailing in Syria. He also criticized the policy of imposing a one-sided fait accompli pursued by the Damascus regime, noting that the latter is attempting to cover up events through disguised headlines, attempting to portray the country on international television as a nation.

In a statement published on his official website, Al-Hajri also denounced "the repetition of the one-sided management of everything under the Damascus government." He argued that the latter does not respect credentials, expertise, legal principles, or international norms, not to mention the destruction of state departments and infrastructure, the imposition of non-specialized leadership positions from the same faction, and the arbitrary mass dismissals across the board.

He criticized the so-called "National Conference" held by the Damascus government, noting that state-building requires a comprehensive conference of representatives of all citizens, describing its decisions as disappointing.

He expressed his deep sorrow over the massacres taking place on the Syrian coast, describing the killing of innocents as a Tatar atrocity reminiscent of ISIS crimes and a violation of international law and religious and moral principles. He accused the Damascus government of being responsible for the actions of those who perpetrated the massacres.

Regarding the "constitutional declaration" of the Damascus government, Al-Hajri declared his categorical rejection of the declaration, considering it issued by a committee that was of the same color as its predecessors. This declaration was also disguised, handing over the entire country to a single person with absolute powers, establishing a new authoritarian authority.

Al-Hajri called for serious and sound work, based on a clear plan, to draft a constitutional declaration that is legally and constitutionally sound and establishes a participatory democratic system, with competent national bodies from among the country's best citizens. Ideas should come from across the country's spectrum, through committees encompassing all governorates. This will enable a constitutional declaration to be redrafted that takes into account the historical and cultural specificities of the entire country, respects human rights, and ensures effective citizen participation in decision-making within a unified democratic state based on the principle of separation and independence of powers, and grants broader local administrative powers to Syrian regions.
