7th Conference of Kurdish Writers’ Union in Syria kicks off 

The activities of the Seventh Conference of the Kurdish Writers’ Union in Syria were held today in the city of Qamishlo. The conference is expected to result in recommendations and the election of new members to the Union’s leadership.

Today, the Seventh Conference of the Kurdish Writers’ Union in Syria was held in the Reading Garden in Qamishlo, with the participation of a select group of intellectuals, writers, poets, visual artists, and critics.

The conference began with a minute of silence, followed by an opening speech delivered by Qadir Akid, a member of the administrative board of the Kurdish Writers’ Union in Syria, in which he congratulated all intellectuals and writers on the convening of the conference.

He said: “This conference is being held today amid the critical transformations taking place in Syria and the region, placing a heavy responsibility on every intellectual and writer. We gather today to renew our commitment to the honest word, enlightened thought, and creativity without borders. Our presence here is not merely a passing meeting, but a confirmation of our deep belief that literature and culture are the living spirit of the nation.”

Akid stressed: “The cultural scene in Syria today is facing major challenges, and the Kurdish writer is not isolated from these transformations. Therefore, we will make this conference a significant step to reaffirm to the world once again that we are a people who build through words what war has destroyed.”

He concluded his speech by wishing success for the conference, saying: “The success of the conference is linked to our collective sincerity and our ability to overcome differences and weakness. What unites us is greater than what divides us.”

Intellectuals and writers urged to advance their language

For her part, Shibal Saeed Youssef, a member of the Kurdish intellectuals and writers’ body in Syria, delivered a speech congratulating the conference participants and calling on writers to enhance their work and produce more distinguished output.

She said: “We must all, as a cultural and literary movement, advance our language, give it greater attention, and work together in a unified spirit. We hope this conference will be a source of inspiration for lovers of writing, and that every writer will advance with their sense and opinion. Success is the destiny of all of us.”

The conference also received several congratulatory messages, in which well-wishers welcomed its convening and expressed hope that it would produce advanced recommendations serving Kurdish culture, writing, language, and literature, wishing success and prosperity to all participants.

This was followed by the selection of board members, the closing of sessions to the media for reading the internal regulations and discussing them, as well as reading the two-year report and discussing the organizational situation.

The conference program will include the election of nine new members to the administrative board of the Kurdish Writers’ Union in Syria, as well as the election of a president and deputy.

The conference is expected to conclude with the issuance of decisions and recommendations.
