The Turkish authorities continue to impose strict isolation on leader Abdullah Ocalan, and prevent him from meeting his lawyer and family, under the pretext of disciplinary sanctions that are renewed every now and then.

A member of the coordination of the Syrian Lawyers Initiative to Defend Leader Abdullah Ocalan, Gabriel Mustafa, said in an interview with ANHA's agency: “The Turkish occupation state has tightened the isolation imposed on Leader Abdullah Ocalan for more than three years, and has prevented his lawyers, family, and journalists from meeting with him, knowing that we are well aware that this isolation is a continuation of the international conspiracy against him."

He continued, "The first goal of this isolation is to pressure Leader Abdullah Ocalan to make concessions to the Turkish occupation state and the countries that participated in the conspiracy, because he is the owner of the idea and project of the democratic nation, to solve all the outstanding problems in the Middle East as a result of the control of modernity and the dominance of capitalism over society, and the second goal is extermination of the oppressed and oppressed peoples who embrace the thought and philosophy of the leader.

He addressed these sanctions by saying, “The disciplinary sanctions imposed on the leader are a deception to human rights organizations and international powers, because he is not an ordinary prisoner and has not committed any criminal offense. Rather, he is a political dissident, and according to the definition of international standards, he is the one who holds ideas that are opposed to the ideas of the ruling authoritarian regimes. Therefore, the political dissident has the right to Prison, with rights and privileges, is different from others, but the Turkish occupation state, through these practices, wants to make the leader an ordinary prisoner.”

He added, "These rights are protected by international charters and treaties, including the United Nations Charter of 1945, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights of 1948, and the Treaty of Sèvres of 1920, which confirmed that the right to self-determination is a sacred right for the Kurdistan people. The leader’s struggle is a legitimate struggle according to international standards and conventions, and the Turkish measures against him are in violation of all laws and treaties.”

Regarding the position of the Committee Against Torture (CPT), Gabriel Mustafa said: “Despite all the violations committed by the Turkish state against the leader Abdullah Ocalan, the committee that visited Imrali since the leader was kidnapped more than eight times did not take any serious position, but rather said in Its reports say that there is neither democracy nor freedom in Imrali prison and that it suppresses freedoms. Amnesty International also confirmed in one of its reports that Imrali prison is the second Guantánamo.”

Regarding the visits of the Committee against Torture (CPT), he said: “Unfortunately, in this visit, the committee did not go to Imrali under the pretext that there is no need, and this indicates that the organizations concerned with the rights of prisoners move according to the interests and agendas of the countries that fund them.”

He pointed out, "Leader Abdullah Ocalan was able to benefit from the 'Right to Hope' law more than 24 years after his imprisonment, but Turkey deprives him of this law by imposing disciplinary penalties in order to exploit it legally in the future."

He stressed, "They are absolute political punishments, because the political prisoner does not have any disciplinary punishment imposed on him. On the contrary, he has rights and privileges, including communication with the outside world, watching media channels, and communicating with his lawyer and family in absolute freedom."

Gabriel Mustafa also criticized the World Health Authority’s failure to fulfill its duty towards Leader Abdullah Ocalan, and said: “Even the World Health Authority did not fulfill its humanitarian duty in accordance with the United Nations Charter and its internal regulations. It is the duties of the World Health Authority to enter Imrali and monitor the health of Leader Abdullah Ocalan; Because in this recent period, we have received information that threatening messages have been delivered to the leader."
