Iranian media reported that the 37 female political prisoners had submitted their names on Saturday to the prison authorities for family visits, but their requests were denied.

The prison authorities stated that the denial was due to their recent protests against the death sentence for activist Bakhshan Azizi.

Iranian authorities arrested Bakhshan Azizi on August 3, 2023, in Tehran. By the end of December of the same year, after the conclusion of investigations and enduring several months of psychological and physical torture, she was transferred from solitary confinement in Ward 209 (under intelligence surveillance) to the women's section of Evin Prison. Since July, she has been denied contact with her family. These policies towards detainees by Iran have sparked public outrage across Kurdistan and especially in NE Syria.

Over 300 executed in Iran in seven months

In line with the Iranian authorities' repressive policies toward detainees, the Iranian Human Rights Organization announced that at least 300 people were executed in Iran during the first seven months of the current year.

According to the organization, the Iranian authorities executed 42 Baloch citizens, 20 Kurds, 20 Afghan citizens, one Iraqi citizen, and 15 women in the past seven months.

The report noted that 282 people were executed during this period on various charges. The organization recorded 49 executions in July alone, with 36 carried out in the last 11 days of the month.

The report also highlighted that Iranian authorities executed at least one person every five hours during these six days.

The Iranian Human Rights Organization warned, in a report on the human rights situation in Iran last month, of an increase in executions in the days following the presidential elections.
