With the launch of the Rojava Revolution on July 19, 2012, the processes of change for which the revolution was launched began in the region. The first task was to build a new system that replaces the state structures that have always represented tyranny, dictatorship, and central authority based on the male mentality, which does not see any will. society, enslaving women, marginalizing youth, and exploiting the energies of society and the surrounding environment to exercise its dominance and power.

The new system in the region is the project of the democratic nation, which found its way to light with the start of the revolution in North and East Syria, so the processes of forming local councils and communes began, whose first tasks were to organize society, provide services to it, spread awareness among its ranks, direct it towards achieving self-sufficiency, and building a system Self-Protection and dissemination of democratic principles, social justice and gender equality, taking into account the diversity of the social fabric and the presence of many components that enjoyed privacy and exercised their national rights.

In order for work to be done to consolidate the system of the democratic nation, it was necessary to start working on qualifying cadres who can build this system and spread the concepts it calls for and implement.

Academies lead the tasks of the mental revolution

Although training sessions and events were organized in the months following the revolution, the need to build institutions concerned with this work was great, so steps were taken in this direction.

On April 6, 2013, the first founding conference of the "Nuri Dersami" Foundation for Science and Free Thought was held in the city of Amuda, led by the martyr Hercule (Hussein Shawish), to become the first community awareness center in Rojava.

Then the name was changed in the second conference to become the Foundation for Science and Free Thought, and with the increase in the role of this institution in society and the strong demand for it by the people, who realized the importance of training and awareness, the name of the Academies of the Democratic Society was given to it in the third conference.

The work of the Democratic Society Academies lies in training and qualifying members and administrators working in the institutions of the revolution in North and East Syria, starting from the communes to the councils, and the various institutions of the Autonomous Administration and civil society institutions.

Today, dozens of democratic society academies in the regions of North and East Syria are constantly organizing training courses, which dozens undergo each time.

This is in addition to the spread of many other academies, as the Syrian Democratic Forces have dozens of academies that give intellectual lessons in addition to military lessons and applications.

The Syrian Revolutionary Youth Movement also has special academies that train youth, in addition to 19 academies for women, of which 7 are affiliated with Kongra Star, and an academy supervised by the Women's Authority in the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria, which is the Martyr Nalin Academy in Jazira region.

The academies paved the way for the establishment of universities. There are 3 universities (Kobani, Rojava, and Sharq) working on graduating educational cadres, in addition to 11 academics and 7 institutes throughout the regions of North and East Syria.

All these academies practice the tasks and actions of the mental and intellectual revolution that is developing day after day, based on the free thought of leader Abdullah Ocalan and the project he presented, the project of the democratic nation.

Shervan Muslim, the co-chair of the University of Kobani, and one of the actors in the work and activities of the academies of the Democratic Society for several years, explained that: "With the beginning of the revolution, we believed that the revolution would not be victorious if it was limited to the military aspect only. There is a need to achieve intellectual victories as well, and to build a strong relationship." between the theoretical and practical aspects, and this will be achieved through training, so there was a need to organize strong intellectual training processes, and this is what the academies' institutions are built on."

Shervan Muslim talked about the aspects that the academies focused on in their training courses and lectures, and he says: "The training operations centered at its inception on the AA system, how the work would be, defining its philosophy, institutional structure, and its ethical relationship with society. From this point of view, the academies played a very important role."

He added, "After its name was changed to the Academies of the Democratic Society, the academies worked to attract all segments of society, and closed and open training courses were organized on a regular and monthly basis, to deal with how to implement the philosophy of the Autonomous Administration, apply its institutional structure, and discuss the mistakes and pitfalls that people complain about."

Regarding his personal experience, Shervan Muslim said: "Through our participation in receiving and delivering lessons, we clearly saw the great importance played by the academies in society, as a person can, after entering them, change the old mentality, and when we see around us the level reached by the Autonomous Administration and its relationship with society and the mental change that took place, and the acceptance of women within the institutions, it is certain that the credit for all of this goes to these academies, which played a major role within the institutions of the Autonomous Administration and brought about a great intellectual change that we see clearly today."

Hedla Khalil, director of the Martyr Sheilan Academy for Women in Kobani, said: "The Rojava Revolution caused a great resonance, and women had a great role in it. Women play a pioneering role, even before the revolution and also after its launch. Before the revolution, the role of women was confined to home and doing housework, but after the revolution, there was a new image of women at the level of the Middle East and the world as a whole.

She added, "Women have proven that they can lead the society and the revolution, hence the women's academies played a major role in the revolution, as the academies are considered an essential pillar in the project of the democratic nation."

Hedla Khalil indicated that: "Women play a major role in thought, and the academies were established on the basis of developing women intellectually so that society and the revolution develop with them.

At the end of her speech, she said: "The women's academies contributed to women's self-knowledge and the development of themselves and their society."

Mustafa Muhammad Siddiq, an administrator in the Revolutionary Youth Movement in the Euphrates region, said: "After the revolution, there was a need to open academies for the youth, and now we have many of them, one of which is the Martyr Karzan Academy, which works to develop the level of education and knowledge among the youth, as well as to identify the thought of the leader, We seek for everyone to undergo the training courses held by this academy, which opens the courses in the Kurdish language."

He added, "In the Arabic language, there is the Martyr Botan Academy, along with an academy for young women and an academy for media. There are many academies and we need to open more to receive a larger number of youth."

Mustafa Mohammad Seddik confirmed that: "The academies have made many changes in the face of the private war waged by the enemy against the youth. We see the youth and the difference before and after undergoing training. The academies are working to introduce the thought of the leader, the reality of the Kurds, and the role that the youth are supposed to play."

A friend called: "All youth to come and undergo training courses to raise their level of knowledge and awareness." He said: "In the future, if there is a need, we will increase the number of academies and work to involve more youth in training activities."
