Several parties continue to besiege north and east Syria economically. In addition to the Tal Koçber border crossing with Iraq, the KDP closed the Fish Khabur and Al Walid crossings. Today, a session of the UN Security Council is being held regarding the border crossings with Syria.

The Tal Koçber/Al Yaroubiya crossing was closed with a Russian-Chinese veto in June 2021 for humanitarian aid to enter northern and eastern Syria, and the Bab al-Hawa crossing, occupied by Turkey and its mercenaries, was approved.

The people are waiting for the aid into northern and eastern Syria, which already hosts about one million refugees and displaced people from Syria and from Iraq as well.

Commenting on the goals behind closing the crossing, Hussein Al-Ali, the leader of the Kurdish Left Party in Syria, spoke to our agency, who saw that closing it falls under the political decisions, rejecting the politicization of humanitarian issues.

He added: "The crossing was closed by a Russian decision, and the Syrian regime, because they prevent the delivery of humanitarian aid to the peoples of NES with all its components."

Attempts to appease the region

Al-Ali explained the goal and purpose of closing the crossing, saying: "It aims to break the will of the peoples of the region, prevent the recognition of the Autonomous Administration politically, and acquiesce the peoples of northern and eastern Syria to the Syrian regime and Russian policies by making concessions to them."

He added: "Russia is trying to impose its hegemony  on the regions of northern and eastern Syria, as well as west of the Euphrates, as it allowed the opening of the Bab al-Hawa crossing, which is under the control of Turkey and mercenaries, to control the humanitarian aid that reaches its areas and the areas of the Syrian regime."

Politician Hussein al-Ali sees the Damascus government’s control of humanitarian aid as an attempt to impose its policies and “acquiesce the people to its influence and sovereignty, such as political settlements and reconciliations that have proven to be unsuccessful, in an effort to restore its hegemony on Syrian lands.”

Al-Ali considered that the international community and the United Nations should abandon these decisions because they are incorrect and do not serve the peoples of the region.

Hussein Al-Ali pointed to the contradictions in the United Nations resolutions, and pointed out that in 2014, the United Nations passed a resolution bearing the number 2165, which stipulated the opening of all crossings in Syria to provide aid to the peoples of the region, but the opposite happened, as all the crossings linking Syria with the outside were closed. Except for the Bab al-Hawa crossing.

Politician Hussein al-Ali said: "These decisions serve international agendas, such as Turkey and the Syrian government only, and do not serve the Syrian people."

Hussein Al-Ali warned of a humanitarian catastrophe if the crossings with the Autonomous Administration continue to be closed, as it includes many refugee and displaced camps, which are in dire need of relief supplies.

Politician Hussein Al-Ali appealed to the international community to reconsider its previous decisions and to put pressure on Russia and China not to use the Chinese and Russian veto right, at their next meeting, saying: "The region is being attacked by Turkey and its mercenaries, and is facing cutting off the Euphrates water, and the Allouk station, and there is the spread of the Corona virus."

For his part, citizen Abdul Rahman Barafi considered that the continued closure of the Tel Kojer crossing is a humanitarian catastrophe, as the crossing is considered a humanitarian corridor through which humanitarian and relief aid enters north and east Syria, saying: “The decision to close the crossing is an immoral and inhumane decision that only increases the burdens on the people.” .

Citizen Adla Mesto wondered about the reason for closing the crossings with northeastern Syria, whether the Tal Kojer crossing or the Fish Khabur and Al-Walid crossings. She said: "The crossing is humanitarian first, including for trade. Do they want to starve the peoples of the region or what?"

She was surprised that the crossings in the areas controlled by the mercenaries remained open, and the humanitarian crossings were closed in safer areas than the rest of the Syrian and occupied areas. our regions."

Citizen Najwa Al-Abbas said: "The closure of the crossings with Rojava poses many obstacles to the livelihood of the peoples of the region, as it leads to high prices, loss of commodities and basic living materials, and later may constitute a humanitarian disaster if the situation continues like this."
