Arab press: Washington shows Russian's illusions in Syria, radical group control on the Turks in Europe

On Wednesday morning, Arab press touched upon on the Russian-American moves in Syria, in addition to Erdogan's exploitation of the Turkish community in Europe.

American focus on showing Russia's illusions from the results of the refugee conference

The beginning is with the Syrian issue, and in this context, Al-Sharq Al-Awsat newspaper said: "Washington is intensifying its diplomatic efforts to tighten the screws on the" Syrian Refugee Conference "scheduled in Damascus on the 11th and 12th of this month and to ensure the boycott by European and Arab countries and the United Nations.

US side focuses on showing the "Russian illusions" from the conference to prevent Moscow from achieving its goal of "breaking the isolation" from Damascus, or its attempt to "legitimize the Syrian government and convert military achievements into political acceptance."

The Russian Hmeimim base had taken the initiative at the beginning of last month to send invitations to the conference, which was not satisfied by Damascus, especially the language contained in the Russian text that "the Syrian crisis has been relatively stable."

Therefore, on the twentieth of last month, Damascus handed over its copy of the invitation to the diplomatic missions and the United Nations, and Moscow and Tehran also put pressure on the countries neighboring Syria to participate in it.

After the invitations arrived, a European meeting was held in coordination with the American side, and the participants took a unanimous decision to boycott the conference.

As for Washington, the "Russian initiative" included three wrong bets, namely "pressuring European countries to make a trade-off between returning refugees in exchange for providing money to government areas, creating a gap between the refugee-hosting countries and the international community, and finally, a change in Washington after the American elections," according to Western official.

"A radical faction controls the Turkish community in Europe"

Regarding the tension between the Armenian and Turkish communities, Al-Arab newspaper said: "The clashes between Armenians and Turks in France a few days ago revealed competition and a power struggle between the two communities in Europe and abroad, to show the correct position of both parties in the battles of the disputed Karabakh region between Armenia and Azerbaijan."

And this competition - as is the case in France - turned into a show of strength through skirmishes, especially by the Turks, which prompted the French authorities to take a decision to ban the organization of gray wolves that adopt violence to impose slogans that believe in the "superiority of the Turkish race."

The Turkish move, which is marked by sharpness and violence, appears especially in France, which has the largest Armenian community, and it has reached the point of desecrating a monument to the Armenian massacre in France and writing slogans on its façade in support of Turkey and Recep Tayyip Erdogan and to organize the militant gray wolves, which required the intervention of the French police.

Observers say that the Turkish community has become dominated by a radical minority hostile to Europe, and to the Armenians and the Kurds in particular, and that the rise of this hard-lines rhetoric has been linked to Erdogan's control of power since he was in the position of prime minister, and that this minority is interested in promoting Erdogan's slogans and plans in Cyprus, the eastern Mediterranean and Karabagh. And Libya, regardless of whether this contradicts the affiliation of the community with the host countries and their duties in this.

These observers indicated that Erdogan penetrated the community by financing centers and mosques and turned them into a pressure card and blackmail for Europe, and this appeared during his campaign for the success of the constitutional amendments in 2017 and trying to promote them in exhibition campaigns despite European opposition to that.

They warned that the Europeans' reluctance to confront the radical minority that dominates the Turkish community may encourage them to go further in search of stronger influence, urging France to follow the example of the "gray wolves" with a racist discourse that believes in the superiority of the Turkish race and the priority of its interests.

Progress in the Libyan talks

On the Libyan issue, Al-Bayan newspaper said: "The Acting United Nations Envoy for Support in Libya, Stephanie Williams, announced that the two Libyan Military Commission delegations made progress in talks to implement the terms of the ceasefire agreement."

The UN envoy said in a press conference after the end of the opening session of the talks hosted by Ghadames: “There is a consensus and noticeable progress reached by the ten officers, which is very encouraging and important to transfer this spirit and responsibility to the political class,” without giving additional details about the points that have been agreed upon. Regarding it, Williams added: "In tomorrow's session, I will go into the details of implementing the terms of the agreement."

UN envoy commended the efforts of the military committee, noting that the officers had promoted the spirit of national responsibility, which we want to convey to the participants in the political dialogue in Tunisia, and on the reasons for choosing Ghadames to host the military talks, she said: “The officers took initiative and determination to hold the meeting inside Libya, which is what happened. By their will, to discuss the details of implementing the terms of the ceasefire agreement.

In his turn, the Director of the Counselling Department in the Libyan Army, Major General Khaled al-Mahjoub, announced that the Libyan armed forces consider the Ghadames Agreement a basis for stability in Libya, indicating that it is not possible to achieve stability in Libya without dismantling the militias, handing over their weapons, evacuating mercenaries, and stopping the Turkish intervention.
