Washington ends countries' exemptions from sanctions on Iran

The United States has decided to end sanctions waivers that allow European, Chinese and Russian companies to conduct business in specific Iranian nuclear facilities, a US official said today, Wednesday.

Another source confirmed to Reuters the validity of the report published by The "Washington Post", as it stated that the decision applies to exemptions related to the Arak heavy water reactor and the supply of enriched uranium to the Tehran Research Reactor and the transportation of spent fuel outside Iran.

According to the agency, the United States of America will extend a separate exemption that permits operation at the Bushehr nuclear reactor 90 days.

Earlier, Iran announced that the production of the Arak nuclear complex from heavy water is currently 20 tons, which can be increased in case of need.

In May 2018, US President Donald Trump announced his country's withdrawal from the 2015 nuclear agreement with major powers and the re-imposing sanctions on Tehran, noting that the agreement does not prevent Iran's destabilizing activity in the region.
