Pentagon is lying Erdogan ... We signed contracts to conduct construction work in Incirlik

The Pentagon today denied Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan about his threats to close Incirlik Air Force Base, where he announced that he had signed a contract with Turkish companies to conduct construction work at the base.

"A 95-million-dollar contract has been signed with eight Turkish companies at a fixed price," the Pentagon website said in a statement.

According to the Pentagon, the work is expected to be completed before the end of 2024.

The US Air Force uses the Incirlik Air Force Base in Adana Province, southern Turkey, which is part of the NATO missile defense system in Europe.

Earlier, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan threatened to close Incirlik and Korajik bases where American forces are present in response to the US sanctions on his country.

The American-Turkish relations witnessed an escalating tension during the last period, against the background of Ankara's purchase of the Russian S-400 system, and the Turkish attacks on NE, Syria.

Turkey has always been stepping up its rhetoric against Washington and Moscow, but it soon retracts that, as observers questioned the possibility of Erdogan implementing his populist threats against the United States.
