Last attack begins in al-Bagouz, European position on Syrian issue

The Arab newspapers touched on Saturday morning upon the start of the Syrian Democratic Forces' attack on IS in the last enclaves, and the European position on the Syrian issue.

On the Syrian issue, al-Sharq al-Awsat newspaper referred to the start of the latest attack on IS, "A spokesman for SDF announced on Friday evening the start of an attack on the last enclave of IS in al-Baguz in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor amid with an expectation of breaking out a "fierce battle" against the fighters holed up in the enclave. The spokesman for the «Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF)» Mustafa Bali stated, "After our forces completed evacuating al-Baguz civilians and liberating our fighters who were abducted by IS, only terrorists remained in al-Baguz," according to the French agency news, he added, "So our forces began to move militarily and engage in clashes with the terrorists to complete their final liberation."

As for the European position on the Syrian issue, al-Arab newspaper said, "Many indications indicate that there are major changes in the European positions towards important regional issues in the Middle East, especially the Syrian issue, in which the European Union has represented for eight years a key player that adhered firmly to the obligation of overthrowing the regime of Bashar al-Assad.

While the EU member states such as France, Germany and Britain have maintained their rejection of normalization with the Syrian regime, recent statements by their leaders indicate that major changes in EU policies are moving towards changing the alternatives proposed by the militarization which seek to eliminate the regime to seek political solutions.

Presenting the Syrian issue with all its dilemmas will be unavoidable; the political solution to the refugees and the return of the European jihadists through the support of the Kurds and the American position, as well as the confrontation with Russia next month in a conference in Brussels to collect billions of dollars in aid for displaced Syrians. Diplomats say that this conference will be a decisive moment in Europe's efforts in the Syrian issue, especially with the withdrawal of US forces."
