ISIS nears total defeat; Syrian army sends reinforcements to Quneitra

World newspapers on Wednesday touched upon their headlines about the battles in the last pocket of IS mercenaries and the end of the so-called "Caliphate State." The newspapers also touched on doubts about the US withdrawal from northern Syria, the Venezuelan crisis.

"End of the dream of the Caliphate"

We start with the British Newspaper The Daily Telegraph, which published a special report entitled "IS Organization that May Witness the End of the Caliphate's Dream Today."

The newspaper published that some of the hundreds of fighters of IS organization in the village of al-Baguz are ready to negotiate with Syrian Democratic Forces SDF -backed by coalition forces to secure a safe passage to the last strongholds of the organization in Syria in exchange for the release of foreign detainees.

Will the United States withdraw its forces from Syria in April really?

While the Russian newspaper "Svobodnaya Prisa", touched upon the subject of the withdrawal of US troops from Syria. The newspaper said: "A large part of the American elite, as shown by recent events, opposed the withdrawal of US troops from Syria but Trump is still insistent on his position, despite the absolute refusal of Congress to support his initiative, Trump, without the consent of Congress, cannot do so.

The problem is in the absence of a "Kurdish plan", any plan that would be effective. Turkey is preparing for an urgent invasion, and the long waiting makes it increasingly impatient.

Reconciling Kurds and Turks will not be so simple. So far, containment has been effective. The United States has deterred the parties from over-activity, and that's good. There are no other forces capable of doing so.

Of course, the French forces have influence in Syria, but they will not be able to influence Erdogan or the Kurds. Therefore, the French military is likely to leave Syria after the United States, if the latter withdraws.

Therefore, it is hard to believe that US forces will withdraw from Syria in April or May. Not to mention that Kurdish security is not the only problem. The problem of Iranian expansion remains. To deter Iran, al-Tanf base is still needed, and troops are needed in the south of Deir –ez-Zor.

Syrian army sends reinforcements to Quneitra

The Syrian army sent reinforcements to a base in al-Quneitra area overlooking the occupied Golan. These reinforcements come just 24 hours after the Syrian army put the air defense forces on high alert in western Syria," the Jerusalem Post reported.

This is the first time that Syria has been sending reinforcements to the border since the start of its military operations in al-Quneitra region.

Reinforcements from the National Defense Forces militia fighting alongside the Syrian army joined the Syrian forces on the border.
