Why young people stay away from reading?

The Culture and Art Body in al-Jazeera region organizes an annual exhibition for the books on behalf of the Martyr Herekol Exhibition. At the request of publishing houses, writers and intellectuals, the Body organizes a series of mobile exhibitions in the cities of the region.

Despite the heavy turnout to these exhibitions in general, it is noted that the youth group does not come to these exhibitions according to the member of the Culture and Art Body in al-Jazeera region Aram Ali.

Ali pointed to the development of cultural movement, especially in the field of publishing and printing books during the years of the revolution. As a result of this movement, an annual book exhibition was organized during the last two years on behalf of Martyr Herekol.

According to Ali, the persons flock towards the exhibitions, buy and read books are over 40 years old, while the turnout of the young people is very weak.

He also noted to the need to spread the culture of reading among all groups of society, especially the young people. "When we say that youths are the future of societies, they must develop their perceptions and knowledge. Most of the young people who read are students or members of Autonomous Administrations Institutions."

Aram Ali also pointed out another important point which is that the hostile countries, through their repeated attacks against the Kurdish people, seek to dispense of reading and knowledge. "Many dominant countries frequently attack us, leading to the exclusion of reading. Our hope of the youths is great, and in order to face these attacks, we must strengthen the culture of reading, and for this, we must be supported by all civil, political and social institutions and even the communes to promote the culture of reading."
