Children of Afrin unload the scenes of war from their memory on a canvas

The director of the Romaf news agency, the head of the Afrin Culture Association, Hanif Hamo, organized a canvas for Afrin children on a long canvas. They called the painting "Pain Traces" to make room for Afrin children whose memories were filled with scenes of war, bombing, destruction and the pain of displacement. Each drawing a picture on the painting, in order to empty the painful scenes left by the attacks of the Turkish occupation army and his mercenaries on Afrin canton.

On June 24 of this year, the first cloth was placed in the presence of hundreds of children in the Berxwedan camp to draw their memories, and as a result of the difficulties of securing supplies for the continuation of the canvas project, it was stopped for three months.

The members of the Union of intellectuals of Afrin canton, under the auspices of the Romaf news agency, resumed the project. The Kurdish Red Crescent provided psychosocial support to the children. The project started on Sunday in Serdam camp where children from ages 6 to 15 years partook, on the second day, the canvas was moved to al-Ahdas village.

The last day was at Sawaqah school in Fafin district on Tuesday. In the three days, about 400 children participated in the canvas on the 205-meter canvas.

"After we were forced out of Afrin and stayed in the camps, I walked several times there and watched the children talking about the pain of war and displacement, and so I came up with the idea of ​​helping the children to relieve the pain in their memory," said the plastic artist and member of the Union of Afrin Culture Educators Hanif Hamo, “by making them draw those moments on the canvas, and I was hoping that one of the organizations would support the children to present the drawings abroad but that did not happen. Still, this did not discourage us; on the contrary, we are happy that we were able to draw the smile on the faces of children through their drawings, resisted the world before the Turkish occupation."

In the same context, a member of the agency Romaf news Nada Hussein, "through the canvas (Pain Traces) we aim to empty the pain that affected the hearts of children and scenes touching their minds, and aim to move the media to highlight the fact of violations of the Turkish occupation against Afrin and her children.

It is noteworthy that an olive branch was hung on the brush with which the children drew in order to convey a message to the world that the children of Afrin are children of peace and call for an end to the occupation of their land and return to their homes and schools.

I want to go back to Afrin

"We passed through a lot of painful scenes on the way out, but most of them are on the road of Jabal al-Ahlam, where a number of civilians died on the road due to the Turkish bombardment," he said.

"I want to show the mothers of the martyrs who were weeping while they were leaving Afrin and I want to show that we want to go back to Afrin," said Farida Bilal who drew a woman weeping.

While the child Abdullah Halawi drew scenes of the Turkish occupation planes that bombed the city of Afrin.

It is noteworthy that the agency Romaf News will continue to organize such projects from time to time to help Afrin children to develop their abilities in drawing, and to alleviate the atmosphere of war and suffering, as confirmed by the administrative Nuri Adnan.
