Israel appointed Amira Oron as Israel's first ambassador to Egypt, succeeding Dr. David Gopherin.

The spokesman for the Israeli Prime Minister Ophir Gendelman said in a brief statement, "The Foreign Ministry appointed on Monday Amira Oron, who has previously worked as a spokeswoman for the Arab Media Ministry and currently serves as the director of the Egyptian department, as an ambassador to Israel in Cairo.

The appointment of the new ambassador Amira Oron came as successor to Dr. David Gopherin.

Amira is considered the first woman to hold the position since the 1979 Egyptian-Israeli peace treaty.
