Mahmoud Khalil or "Romeo," as he likes to call himself, is a 31-year-old Kobanî artist who draws his feelings and ideas at an atelier near the market of Tilal Street in Kobanî, he has been working in art for 15 years, Khalil has been drawing since 2002, signing his paintings in the name of Romeo, and Khalil from the beginning paints the suffering of the people in Rojava and Bakur Kurdistan, and now Khalil is engraving Rojava Revolution on his paintings

Khalil pointed out that despite the difficult circumstances in life, he did not leave the painting even though he worked in many difficult jobs. In his art, Khalil follows a number of international painters such as Leonardo Da Vinci, Petrus Paulus Rubens, Michelangelo and Picasso. Khalil said each line has his own character. "I draw inspiration from the suffering and joys of the Kurdish people and at the same time, I become the eye of society."

"In every painting I have drawn, I see my reality"

They want to exterminate the Kurdish people for hundreds of years, the history of the Kurdish people is full of resistance and betrayals against it, but this history has not been forgotten through the oral tradition, and we want to destroy the Kurdish people for hundreds of years, to make this history tangible through writing and graphics, for example Rojava Revolution, and as a Kurdish artist I would like to embody the Revolution of Rojava on the pages. "Khalil said.

"I want to draw a painting for Rojava"

Khalil, who focused most of his paintings on the resistance of Kobanî and Afrin, he paints at the same time the features of the elderly. "In every wrinkle, there are hundreds of lessons that hide behind tales and suffering, and I want to draw a painting for Rojava like Picasso's painting "Guernica", which he had painted during the Spanish Civil War."

"Drawing is the way of society"

"We work in difficult circumstances, in the world, there is no interest in drawing and painters, we also suffer from this problem, drawing is the way of society, but nobody cares about us and our profession," Khalil said. So we are waiting the society to take care of us ".
