Iran says it is staying in Syria

Iran Islamic Republic announced that it is staying in Syria as long as the Syrian regime needed "assistance" and said its presence in Syria is legitimate at the request of the government.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahram Qasimi told a news conference on Monday that his country would remain in Syria, according to IRNA.
Qasimi said "No one can force us leave Syria. Our presence is legitimate and at the request of the Syrian government."
Qassimi called for the departure of the other forces that are illegally present on Syrian territory. "They are the ones who must leave Syria."

He added "For the time that the Syrian government needs help, we will remain in Syria and we will continue to support it."
In the Syrian crisis, which began in 2011, Iran intervened alongside the Syrian regime and provided all forms of support, including sending elements of the Revolutionary Guard to fight alongside the regime's forces.
Israel has recently launched attacks on Iranian forces in Syria. In its latest attacks earlier this month, Israel said it had notified Iran's partner, Russia in Astana that it would launch the attacks.
