The inauguration ceremony was attended by Paraguayan President Horacio Cartes and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Paraguay's Foreign Minister  Eladio Loizaga said last Friday that his country had decided to move the embassy independently, without being influenced by the position of any other country and by moving its embassy. Paraguay became the second country in Latin America after Guatemala to follow the example of the United States, which moved its embassy to Jerusalem.

Last December, US President Donald Trump announced the recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and the transfer of the US Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.
