23 Swiss MPs demand halt to sale of arms to Turkey

As part of the international reaction against the occupation of Afrin city, 23 parliamentarians in the Swiss parliament submitted a joint proposal to the Swiss government demanding for cessation of the sale of arms to Turkey immediately, considering that Turkey violates international laws.

After the occupation of Turkey to Afrin city, the reactions and attitudes opposing this Turkish occupation continue to be considered a violation of international law. In this context, a member of Swiss National Parliament of the Democratic Bourgeois Party Gohil Bernhard has presented a proposal to Swiss Federal Parliament demanded of cessation of the sale of military supplies and weapons to Turkey.

The proposal, which was prepared by the deputy Gohil Bernhard and signed by 22 other leftist and right-wing parties, the deputies, and through their proposal, made it clear that Turkey and its occupation of Afrin violated international laws clearly, and during the military operation in Afrin targeted civilians and killed a large number of Afrin peoples.

Turkey targets civilians

The proposal stated that despite all the warnings, Swiss Federal Parliament concluded deals for the sale of military supplies and weapons with Turkey, which stated: Turkey is working to extend the life of Syrian crisis and commit massacres against civilians in Afrin. Under these violations by Turkey, the sale of arms and military supplies to Turkey was unacceptable.

The MPs, through the proposal, explained that the sale of arms to Turkey under these facts violated Swiss Constitution and demanded to stop the sale of military supplies to Turkey immediately.

The deputies who signed the proposal submitted to Federal Parliament are:

 Democratic Bourgeois Party: Douri Gambil.

Liberal Green Party: Beta Fleisch and Thomas Weibel.

Socialist Party: Claudio Fredale, Shantal Gloudy, Beat Janes, Jakos-Andreh Mar, Nadin Maschardit, Erj Nuspamur, Ursula Schamidir, Briska Crav Seler, Carlo Somaruga, Manuel Tornar, Kadres Wermog.

Green Party: Pastin Krood and Baltasar Kalatil.

Hardcore Liberal Party: Krista Mark Older and Philippe Nantermod.

Swiss Christian Democratic Party: Stephan Muler, Kathy Ricklin and Barbara Shemid Federer.

 Swiss Evangelical Party: Marian Feller.
