Hasakah Media Directorate warns of gas emissions at Kawkab Mountain

The Hasakah Provincial Media Directorate has warned residents against approaching or entering the area of emissions and gases at Kawkab Mountain until specialized teams complete surveying and inspection operations, in order to ensure their safety and prevent potential risks.

In a notice, the Hasakah Provincial Media Directorate said a meeting bringing together the Directorate of Environment and the Directorate of Emergency and Disaster Management discussed the emissions and gases released from the Kawkab Mountain area, as well as reports of mines and remnants of war in the area.

It said the difficulty of conducting a comprehensive survey of the entire mountain prompted the Directorate of Emergency and Disaster Management to conduct a partial survey of the area where the gases are being released, with the aim of ensuring that it is free of mines and explosive remnants of war. This will pave the way for environmental testing and soil surveys to determine the nature of the emitted gases.

The Directorate called on residents to avoid approaching the emissions area, carrying out any excavation or soil-disturbance activities, or handling any suspicious objects until surveying and inspection operations are completed and the necessary measures are taken.
