Women call for comprehensive review of constitutional declaration

Several women spoke to ANHA agency regarding their rejection of the "Constitutional Declaration."

 Fikria Farho stated that she has lived outside Syria for 36 years but visited Rojava at the onset of the revolution, and now she can easily visit her homeland. She discussed the Damascus Authority's constitutional declaration, saying, "We cannot accept a constitution that does not guarantee women's rights. How can we accept such a constitution after all this struggle and the sacrifices made? There is no difference between the Baath government and the temporary Damascus government; they share the same mentality, authority, and practices."

 Fikria concluded her remarks by stating, "The constitution does not reflect the will of the people, and the Yazidi community will never accept the new constitution."

 "A Threat to Women"

 In this context, Aliya Osman remarked, "Given the nature of the regime, it was clear that no rights would be granted to the people. This constitution oppresses the rights of Kurds, Syriacs, and Armenians." She continued, "The adopted constitution reinforces an exclusionary mentality and undermines the fundamental components of society. It lacks mechanisms for protecting freedoms, posing a danger to both society and women. Women in North and East Syria cannot accept this constitution at all."

 "All Must Participate in Drafting the Constitution"

 Jaklin Hamou stated, "While the constitutional declaration addresses social conditions, it neglects the rights of all components. A new Syria requires a new constitution that reflects its diversity and guarantees the rights of all its citizens. A comprehensive review of the constitutional declaration is necessary, and all components must participate in the drafting process. It should include clear guarantees for fundamental freedoms and mechanisms to protect women's rights. We demand amendments to the constitutional declaration."
