Warning over continued siege by Transitional govt. on Aleppo neighborhoods

The Mothers for Peace urged immediate intervention to halt what they described as inhumane, systematic, and repressive practices against the Syrian people by the transitional government, particularly the siege imposed on the neighborhoods of Sheikh Maqsoud, Ashrafieh, and Bani Zaid in the city of Aleppo.

This came in a statement issued by the Mothers for Peace today, read by Nawal Mohammed, with the participation of a number of women in front of the Martyrs’ Families Council in Aleppo.

The statement warned that the continuation of the siege and restrictions on residents would further exacerbate their daily suffering, especially with the onset of winter and its harsh climatic conditions, the spread of diseases and epidemics, and the severe shortage of essential materials required for daily life.

It further stressed that the lack of supplies, particularly fuel and medicines, poses a real danger that could lead to a humanitarian disaster, underscoring that securing medical supplies for the elderly and meeting the needs of infants is of utmost importance and cannot be delayed. The statement renewed its warning that thousands of families are now at risk should the current situation persist.

The statement called on the transitional government to refrain from procrastination in implementing signed agreements, to work seriously to lift the siege, and to move toward practical implementation of the March 10 and April 1 agreements, describing them as essential to consolidating security and stability and paving the way for a unified Syria for all its people without exception—based on equality, freedom, fair representation, and genuine partnership in governance.

The Mothers for Peace emphasized that pluralism and decentralization constitute a fundamental demand for all Syrians, affirming that Syria deserves to be safe and to enjoy security and stability like other countries.

The statement also noted that the continuation of an aggressive approach does not serve the interests of the Syrian people, as the communities and groups in these neighborhoods represent Syria’s deep-rooted social fabric and national cohesion, having sacrificed their finest sons for the country.

The Mothers for Peace concluded by affirming their rejection of the waste of martyrs’ blood, stressing that every drop of a martyr’s blood will remain a symbol of freedom and steadfastness, and that the resistance of Sheikh Maqsoud will endure in the memory of successive generations as a model of sacrifice and resilience in the face of attacks.
