A plaque dedicated to martyred journalists Gulestan Tara and Hiro Bhaa al-Din in the southern city of Sayed Sadiq was vandalized, deliberately torn up and burned, sparking outrage, Roj News reported.

The painting, which was unveiled on February 10, was a tribute to the two journalists, Gulestan Tara and Hiro Bhaa al-Din, who were attacked by a drone of the Turkish occupation state targeting a car belonging to the "Jatar" media company on August 23, 2024, which led to the martyrdom of the 2 journalists and the injury of 6 other journalists.

This came after activists and journalists called for the street where the 2 journalists were targeted as "Press Martyrs Street" in their memory.

However, the painting did not last long, as it was torn up and burned by unknown persons, in an attempt to obscure the truth and curb freedom of expression.

This attack provoked widespread condemnation, as activist Zana Ali, one of the applicants for the name of the street, considered the perpetrators "traitors and mercenaries", calling for strict legal measures against them.

The agency's correspondent tried to contact Reda Ismail, the mayor of the Sayed Sadiq area, to inquire about the legal steps taken, but received no response.
