Turkish attacks on Syria, Iraq are approved by America- Russia benefits from them
Director of the Lebanese Center for Research and Consultation, Hassan Al-Qutb, believes that the Turkish attacks on North and East Syria and Southern Kurdistan have undeclared American approval. Russia also benefits from the Turkish occupation in Syria as it is a competitor on the Syrian scene. To create a balance for the Iranian and Turkish presence, especially since after the Ukrainian war, it needed it to import foodstuffs.
Six years ago, without any deterrence, Turkey began occupying Syrian lands, starting from northern Syria, such as the Afrin region, Girê Spi/Tal Abyad, and Serêkaniyê, and caused destruction there, displacing thousands of people, stealing property and livelihoods, and killing hundreds of citizens.
In numbers, 668 citizens were martyred in Afrin, including 97 children and 88 women, in the explosion of bombs and car bombs and under torture and aerial, artillery and missile bombardment.
The numbers also recorded the kidnapping of more than 8,729 citizens, and in light of all these numbers, Turkish crimes continue to this day in clear violation of international laws and conventions and an absence of accountability.
In Southern Kurdistan, the Kurds face injustice and persecution that can be considered a threat to their existence and sovereignty. The military attacks of the Turkish occupation pose a threat to the lives of citizens, and cause the displacement of thousands from their areas, and information indicates that the Turkish occupation is planning to carry out new large-scale ground attacks in Southern Kurdistan. After several shuttle visits to Baghdad and Hewler, Turkish officials announced launching attacks against southern Kurdistan.
Tureky fears the existence of a free Kurdistan entity
The Turkish occupation fears the existence of democratic self-administration in North and East Syria, and claims that its establishment threatens its national security and territorial integrity. It also fears any progress by the Kurds in Southern Kurdistan that this will be reflected in Northern Kurdistan, and it constantly uses this as an excuse to legitimize its attacks on North and East Syria and Southern Kurdistan.
Director of the Lebanese Center for Research and Consultation, Hassan Al-Qutb, spoke in this context to ANHA's agency and pointed out that the Turkish occupation seeks to prevent the unification of the Kurdish regions in North and East Syria and the rest of Kurdistan, which were divided as a result of the Sykes-Picot Agreement, and has been working over the years to divide and weaken them.
Hassan Qutb explained that the Damascus government turns a blind eye to the Turkish occupation in North and East Syria despite publicly opposing it.
He said: “The Turkish intervention in northern Syria and Iraq enjoys undeclared American approval for all these operations committed against the Kurdish entity. Russia also benefits from the Turkish intervention in Syria as a competitor on the Syrian scene to create a balance for the Iranian and Turkish presence, especially since it is after the Ukrainian war, “it needs it to import food.”
Qutb also noted that: “Russia is benefiting from this occupation to establish some balance with Iran politically through the militias present in Iraq, Syria and Lebanon.”
Qutb pointed out that the Turkish occupation state considers its continued occupation of the regions of northern Syria and Iraq to be an acceptable extension of the revival of Turkish nationalism and political influence in the region, and this can be confirmed by the policy of the Turkish President adopted over the years.
Qutb explained that the Turkish regime, by broadcasting the Turkish spirit, is what encourages antagonizing the Kurds and disrespecting their culture, civilization, and role, and even their legitimate rights to be fully respected, and not granting them their role in political work, which is considered a positive role at the level of Turkey and the rest of the countries.
Qutb stated: “Hence, the international community must condemn the Turkish occupation and consider it a violation of international law and the sovereignty of states, and pressure Turkey to withdraw completely without restrictions or conditions, including ensuring the safe return of the indigenous people of northern Syria and Iraq, removing all settlers and removing all manifestations of demographic change practiced against Kurdish identity.”
