The cities of Jableh and Latakia and their countryside are witnessing unusual security movements, marked by the entry of large convoys of Damascus forces, with a number of personnel wearing masks, despite a recent official decree prohibiting face coverings while carrying out field missions.

These intense movements have raised concerns among residents amid the escalating security tensions in the region, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

Security operations also extended to the villages of al-Sharashir and al-Qubaisa, adjacent to the Hmeimim Air Base, where strict measures were imposed, including closing entrances and exits and preventing entry and exit, coinciding with a general alert by the Damascus government's security forces.

This security escalation comes two days after an attack carried out by an armed group that attempted to infiltrate the base, resulting in the deaths of three armed attackers.

Russian forces used firearms to repel the attack, while the bodies were transported to the base. There has been no official comment from the Russian or Syrian sides regarding the identities of the dead or the background to the operation.

Local sources in Latakia reported hearing heavy gunfire and clashes with medium and heavy weapons around the base's runway on Tuesday morning, accompanied by the sounding of air raid sirens. A state of anticipation and anxiety prevails in the region, amid the continued lack of official clarification regarding the motives for the attack and subsequent security operations.
