25 people from Kobani stranded between Kurdistan Region, Eastern Kurdistan

A video posted by a person from Kobani showed several men, women, and children in a mountainous area. One of the young men appearing in the video said the group consists of 25 residents of Kobani who have been stranded for about a week without water or food. He did not specify the exact location where the video was filmed.

ANHA correspondent contacted members of the group by phone. They confirmed that they are in a mountainous area near Haj Omran village, close to the crossing between the Kurdistan Region of federal Iraq and Eastern Kurdistan. They said they are facing difficult humanitarian conditions due to the lack of water and food, and called for urgent intervention to rescue them and secure a safe route out of the area.

One of the people contacted by ANHA agency also sent a video describing what they are experiencing there and explaining how the situation began.

The stranded individuals said they had attempted to reach the Kurdistan Region through unofficial routes, but the authorities arrested them and sent them back toward the buffer zone between the two sides and the Iranian territories (Eastern Kurdistan). They said Iranian authorities detained them and then handed them back to the Kurdistan Region authorities, who are currently keeping them in the buffer zone between the areas controlled by the two sides. The authorities there, in turn, sent them back toward the areas from which they had come.

They said they are currently stranded in the border area near Haj Omran village after being unable to continue their journey or return, amid difficult geographical conditions and a shortage of basic necessities.

The stranded individuals appealed to Kurdish authorities, humanitarian organizations, and the international community to take urgent action to rescue them and secure a safe passage, warning of the dangers of remaining in the mountainous area without water or food.

According to the information, the 25 people traveled from Kobani to the United Arab Emirates and from there to Iran, where they attempted to cross into the Kurdistan Region through unofficial routes.
