Pezeshkian: we will respect ceasefire If Israel reciprocates

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian pledged today that his country will respect the ceasefire agreement with Israel announced by US President Donald Trump, provided that Israel does the same.

Pzeshkian said during a phone call with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, "If Israel does not violate the ceasefire, Iran will not violate it either," according to the Iranian presidency.

In another call, the Iranian president told the Emir of Qatar, Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, that the State of Qatar and its people were not the target of this operation, and that this attack does not pose a threat to the State of Qatar, stressing that it will remain a neighboring country.

He also expressed his hope that relations between the two countries will always be based on respect for state sovereignty and good neighborliness.

The US president had previously announced the entry into force of the ceasefire, calling on both countries not to violate it and to adhere to the truce.

The Israeli government later stressed that it would respond forcefully to any violation of this agreement, declaring "a major victory and the elimination of the Iranian nuclear and missile threat."

Over the course of 12 days, unprecedented mutual confrontations erupted between the two sides, with Israel striking military and nuclear sites and missile launch pads, in addition to assassinating senior military leaders and nuclear scientists.

At the same time, Iran launched a series of missile and drone attacks against several Israeli areas.

The war led to American intervention in the conflict, with the United States launching airstrikes and attacks on three nuclear facilities last Saturday evening, targeting Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan. Tehran responded by targeting a military base in Qatar, without any casualties, before Trump abruptly announced a ceasefire hours later.
