(HDP) concludes meeting with the Turkish Minister of Justice

A delegation from the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) concluded its meeting with Turkish Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç in Ankara. The two sides discussed key issues related to prison conditions and the violations against detainees, most notably the issue of sick prisoners.

The delegation included the party's parliamentary group vice chairpersons, Gülstan Kılıç Kucıbekt and Sezai Temelli, along with Öztürk Türkdoğan, a representative of the party's Rights and Freedoms Committee.

The meeting lasted for an hour, during which the delegation addressed the structural problems and escalating violations within Turkish prisons, particularly those related to healthcare and the deliberate neglect of sick detainees.

In a press statement following the meeting, MP Sezai Temelli said, "We discussed prison conditions in light of the government's repressive policies, and we clearly raised the issue of serious violations, especially the systematic neglect suffered by sick prisoners."

Temelli noted that the minister expressed his willingness to listen to the demands and promised to seek steps to address these issues. The parliamentary delegation emphasized that their party would continue to closely monitor the issue to ensure concrete action is taken and end the violations against detainees.

It is worth noting that prison conditions in Turkey are witnessing increasing criticism from local and international human rights organizations, in light of the escalation in political arrests and the ongoing violations against detainees, particularly Kurds and political activists.
