Officials, leading figures call for rejecting sedition, promoting coexistence, civil peace

Today, Kurdish families in Afrin and Aleppo were subjected to assaults while celebrating the Newroz holiday; furthermore, Kurdish symbols were desecrated incidents that sparked widespread outrage and led to protests in both Al-Hasakah and Qamishlo.

Samir Awso (known as Siban Hemo), the Deputy Minister of Defense in the Interim Government, posted a tweet on his official account on the X platform.

In it, he underscored the need to work toward stabilizing the region and promoting peaceful coexistence.

The statement read: "Due to an isolated incident, the Kurdish people in Aleppo and its surrounding districts were subjected to physical assault and humiliation. It has become evident that certain parties lie in wait for such isolated incidents in order to sow sedition among the various components of the Syrian people. Therefore, we call upon all patriots to exercise restraint, uphold the national spirit, and resist being dragged into sedition. We affirm that those who lowered the Syrian flag in the city of Kobani, as well as those who insult members of the Kurdish people and their symbols share the same mentality, one that aims to foster division and sedition." "We must all stand together against these unacceptable behaviors and work to strengthen national unity and peaceful coexistence among all Syrians. We call upon everyone to remain in their homes, to continue exchanging holiday greetings with their loved ones, and to treat one another with respect, regardless of differences in ethnicity or religion. Furthermore, anyone who insults the Syrian flag or commits acts of aggression against the Kurdish people or their symbols will be held accountable. We affirm that the law will take its course against anyone who threatens stability and security in Syria. On the contrary, we must work together to ensure the stability of the region, foster peaceful coexistence among all Syrian communities, and respect the Syrian flag, which represents all Syrians."

Meanwhile, the Governor of Al-Hasakah, Nour al-Din Issa in a statement published by the official media office of the Al-Hasakah Governorate emphasized the imperative of rejecting sedition.

His published statement read: "We call upon all citizens to act responsibly and to respect national symbols. We condemn any irresponsible behavior that undermines national unity or weakens the social cohesion among the various communities and segments of Syrian society. We urge our people not to be drawn into acts of sedition."

For her part, Ilham Ahmed, Co-chair of the Department of Foreign Relations within the Autonomous Administration, called upon the public to steer clear of sedition and to uphold civil peace.
