Internal Security Forces call for awareness, reject incitement to discord

The Internal Security Forces in the Jazira Canton issued a statement condemning the attacks on Kurdish Newroz celebrants in Afrin and Aleppo, as well as attempts to incite discord among the components of Syrian society, which do not serve the interests of Syrians.

The statement reads as follows:

"Based on our national and moral responsibility to preserve civil peace and regional stability, and in light of the Newroz celebrations in the city of Kobani, the Internal Security Forces in Hasakah monitored an unfortunate incident in which an individual, acting alone and irresponsibly, lowered the Syrian flag. This act is condemned and does not in any way reflect the policies of the region or the values of coexistence.

Immediately following the incident, the Internal Security Directorate in Kobani assumed full responsibility and acted promptly. The individual involved was arrested and referred to the relevant legal authorities, reaffirming our firm rejection of any offense against symbols that hold significance for Syrians.

While clarifying the facts of what occurred, we condemn the violations that took place in Afrin and Aleppo after the celebrations, where certain parties exploited the circulated footage to incite organized unrest, particularly in Afrin by fueling ethnic and sectarian tensions and attacking residents, which led to escalating tensions in several areas.

These inciting actions do not serve the interests of the region, but rather aim directly to destabilize it.

Accordingly, the Internal Security Forces affirm that continuing to be drawn into such strife, aimed at igniting sectarian conflict, will only bring harm to all Syrians. We reaffirm our commitment to protecting public security and call on our people to exercise the highest levels of awareness and self-restraint, and not allow malicious voices to incite discord. We will stand firmly against anyone who attempts to undermine the security of the region."
