French President Emmanuel Macron today called for a halt to fighting in the Middle East during Eid al-Fitr, expressing concern over what he described as “uncontrolled escalation” and the expansion of the conflict to include energy facilities.

Speaking during his participation in a European summit in Brussels, Macron said that targeting production capacities in Gulf countries represents a dangerous development, noting that Iran had previously been subjected to similar attacks.

He urged the initiation of direct talks between the United States and Iran to contain the crisis, stressing the need to stop strikes on civilian infrastructure, particularly energy and water facilities.

He added: “Everyone must calm down, and the fighting should stop for at least a few days to give negotiations a chance,” emphasizing the importance of reaching a temporary de-escalation during Eid al-Fitr.
