Kurdistan Region President welcomes leader Ocalan’s call

Just hours after leader Abdullah Ocalan’s appeal for peace, President Nechirvan Barzani of the Federal Region of Southern Kurdistan expressed his support for the leader’s message.

In his statement, Abdullah Ocalan, referring to his appeal as "the call for peace and a democratic society," said: "The second century of the republic can only achieve unity and lasting continuity if it is crowned with democracy. Without democracy, there is no way to establish and implement governance systems—it is simply impossible. Democratic consensus is the fundamental method. In this process, I call for disarmament and take historical responsibility for this call."

Nechirvan Barzani, in a statement via Platform X, said: "We warmly welcome Mr. Ocalan’s message and his calls."

He expressed hope that all parties would commit to and implement this appeal, paving the way for peace and peaceful solutions.

He added:"There is no doubt that the current era is one of peaceful, civil, and democratic struggle, through which better results and achievements can be realized—not through weapons and violence."
