UN Secretary-General António Guterres referred to the historic appeal made by leader Abdullah Ocalan as a “glimmer of hope for achieving peace.”

Just a few hours ago, leader Abdullah Ocalan issued a call titled "The Call for Peace and a Democratic Society." In his statement, he said: "The second century of the republic can only achieve unity and lasting continuity if it is crowned with democracy. Without democracy, there is no way to seek and implement governance systems—it is simply impossible. Democratic consensus is the fundamental approach. In this process, I call for disarmament and take historical responsibility for this appeal."

UN Secretary-General spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric stated: "Guterres welcomes this significant development, which represents a glimmer of hope that could lead to resolving the long-standing conflict between the Kurdish armed party and the Turkish authorities."
