The Kurdish Women’s Union in Switzerland announced the organization of an annual women’s festival commemorating the martyr Sakine Cansız, one of the most prominent symbols of the struggle for women’s liberation. The festival will take place in Kaserneareal Square in Zurich on June 28.

This year’s festival is held under the slogan "With the motto of Women, Life, Freedom, we will protect women’s gains." It aims to support and unify the women’s struggle against war policies and dominant forces targeting women and children in the Middle East, according to a statement by the union, which called on everyone, especially women, to participate.

Martyr Sakine Cansız was assassinated on January 9, 2013, in Paris, along with her fellow activists Fidan Doğan and Leyla Şaylemez.

In a statement delivered today, the union emphasized that this event carries a message of resistance to defend the gains achieved and reflects the continuation of Sakine Cansız’s approach, who dedicated her life to revolution and the struggle for democracy and social justice. The statement highlighted her significant role in leading the Rojava revolution and eliminating torture, describing her as a "symbol of resistance and freedom."

The statement further noted that Cansız’s legacy serves as an inspiration to revive the heritage of women’s struggle, and her revolutionary path embodies the spirit of resistance against "fascism and patriarchal tendencies." It called on women to join this struggle and participate in the festival.

In conclusion, the union affirmed that the struggle for freedom is everyone’s responsibility, urging women, youth, and the public to contribute to realizing the revolutionary dreams of their comrades and to join the festival’s activities to "honor the memory of martyr Sakine Cansız, a symbol of the fight for freedom and justice."
