Kurdish Unity: Historic demand, calls to overcome partisan divisions

Against the backdrop of ongoing political developments in Syria and the broader Middle East, the necessity of unifying Kurdish ranks has become increasingly urgent to secure and uphold their legitimate rights, which have been denied for decades.

 In this context, Ramadan Fattah, the Co-Chair of the Office for Organization Affairs in Hasaka, emphasized that “Kurdish unity at this juncture is a matter of existential importance, particularly given the transformations shaping the Middle East, where new regional dynamics are taking form.”

 He further noted that the fragmentation of Kurdish parties weakens their collective stance and directly affects the fate of thousands of Kurds, making it imperative to accelerate efforts towards unity and steer clear of external agendas.

 Setting Aside Partisan Interests for National Cohesion

 Fattah stressed that Kurdish parties must set aside past disagreements and embark on a new phase of cooperation and solidarity. He underscored the necessity of holding accountable any party that obstructs the path to unity in pursuit of narrow partisan gains.

 Kurdish Unity as a Guarantee for Political and Constitutional Rights

 Mohammed Zeido, the member of the Kurdish Language Institute, affirmed that the Kurdish people eagerly await the announcement of unity, asserting that “achieving Kurdish unity will secure the Kurds' legitimate political and constitutional rights in Syria and strengthen their position in any future political settlement.”

 Similarly, Mohammed Ashraf, the member of the Democratic Union Party, argued that the root of divisions does not lie among the Kurdish people themselves but rather among the political parties, which have prioritized partisan interests over the Kurdish cause.

 He stated: “After a century of oppression and displacement, achieving unity has become an urgent necessity. The Kurdish people recognize that this is a historic opportunity that must be seized in their favor.”

 The Role of Society in Pressuring Political Parties to Achieve Unity

 Social activist Sherin Abbas emphasized the importance of bringing Kurds together for dialogue to unify their demands and rights in any negotiations with Damascus regarding a new Syrian constitution.

 She also called for “popular pressure on political parties to separate personal and partisan interests from the path to unity.”

 Hopes Pinned on Historic Unity

 Amid these calls, the Kurdish public remains in a state of anticipation and hope that ongoing discussions will lead to a comprehensive agreement, putting an end to divisions and laying the foundation for a new phase of unified political action that fulfills the Kurdish people's aspirations for freedom and legitimate rights.
