KJAR: Iranian authorities commit murder against female detainees

The Free Women’s Organization in Eastern Kurdistan (KJAR) condemned the repressive policies of the Iranian authorities against female detainees, stating that the death of political prisoner Somayeh Rashidi due to denial of medical treatment constitutes a “clear and ongoing murder” of women.

In a statement issued today, Saturday, September 27, the KJAR emphasized that the death of Somayeh Rashidi, who was detained in Qarchak Boroumand Prison and passed away after 11 days of deteriorating health, was not an accident but part of a systematic policy targeting the lives of female prisoners. They described it as a “clear, ongoing, and targeted murder” of women.

The statement noted that Rashidi, who had been arrested multiple times since the outbreak of the popular uprising in Iran and Eastern Kurdistan, was deprived of medical care despite suffering from a serious illness, raising widespread concern among detainees and women’s rights activists.

The KJAR confirmed that the Iranian authorities have consistently used various methods to suppress the voices of female detainees and conceal the truth through contradictory statements and distorted narratives. However, they emphasized that “the struggle of detainees behind bars is the voice of life that cannot be silenced.”

The statement also highlighted the suffering of many detainees deprived of treatment, such as Zeinab Jalalian, who suffers from serious illnesses including kidney, respiratory, and digestive problems, yet is still denied the necessary medical care.

The organization concluded its statement by asserting that what is happening in Iranian prisons is a “continuing murder that exposes the weakness and incapacity of the regime,” calling on everyone to be a voice for the detainees who continue to resist for freedom and a dignified life.

Political prisoner Somayeh Rashidi, detained in Qarchak Prison in Tehran, Iran, lost her life on Thursday, September 25, after her health deteriorated and she had been transferred 11 days earlier to Moftah Boroumand Hospital.

Her death came just days after the Human Rights Organization in Iran announced the death of another political detainee, Jamileh Azizi, in the same prison due to lack of medical care and neglect of her health by the authorities.
