The head of the Iranian Civil Aviation Organization said that flights to Syria are currently suspended due to the special circumstances that Damascus is going through.

Regarding the latest developments in aviation between Iran and Syria, Mohammadi Bakhsh said: The two countries planned to transport 50,000 visitors to Syria annually, and the specific companies for both sides were identified, and flights were in full swing, but they have stopped at the present time due to special circumstances that Syria is going through.

He added that flights will resume after the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announces this.

During the past few months, a number of leaders in the Iranian Revolutionary Guard were killed, led by Brigadier General Ali Aghazadeh, head of the information unit of the Quds Force, on January 21, in air strikes that targeted a residential complex in which they resided inside the capital, Damascus.

General Radhi Mousavi, responsible for the support unit of what is known as the “Axis of Resistance” in Syria, was also assassinated as a result of an Israeli missile strike on his house in the Sayyida Zeinab area in the Damascus countryside.

Reuters previously reported, citing five informed sources, that the Iranian Revolutionary Guard withdrew its senior officers from Syria due to a series of Israeli strikes.
