The Suwayda 24 website revealed the arrival of military reinforcements of the Damascus forces, the largest of their kind, which entered via the Damascus road to Suwayda a short while ago, and their destination was Khalkhala Military Airport, north of the city.

Site sources confirmed that the reinforcements included more than 50 vehicles, including cars equipped with medium machine guns, and buses carrying hundreds of members. They also spoke of the presence of tanks loaded on tankers that were part of the convoy.

Since Thursday, the security services began sending various reinforcements to As-Suwayda, which after their arrival were distributed among security and military barracks inside the city, including Air Force Intelligence, Military Security, and State Security. The Damascus forces did not announce the reasons for sending reinforcements, in light of the spread of conflicting leaks.

However, these reinforcements were prompted by Damascus forces after local groups detained officers and members of the Damascus forces and security services, in response to the continued detention of university student Danny Obaid in Latakia for more than two months, on charges of “undermining the prestige of the state,” according to the website.

The civil groups retained an officer holding the rank of colonel in the Damascus forces, and three members of the State Security branch in Suwayda, as they will continue to be detained until Danny is released, in anticipation that the authorities will renege on their promises.

It is noteworthy that As-Suwayda has witnessed an ongoing peaceful movement since last summer, demanding political change in accordance with UN Resolution 2,254.
