Roj News Agency confirmed, based on information it obtained, that journalist Suleiman Ahmed, who was kidnapped by the Kurdistan Democratic Party for 202 days, was tortured and placed in a solitary confinement room, to pressure him to accept the charges detailed to him, which Suleiman rejected and thwarted the KDP plan.

Journalist Suleiman Ahmed was kidnapped on November 25, 2023, while returning from a funeral of his father, by masked individuals affiliated with the Kurdistan Democratic Party at the Faysh Khabur crossing. He was transferred to an unknown location and his place of detention was kept unknown for 5 months, until his presence was revealed in one of the Asayish prisons in Dohuk in southern Kurdistan.

The Kurdistan Democratic Party sought to fabricate false charges against journalist Suleiman Ahmed, which are among the charges detailed and prepared by the Democratic Party against any political activist or journalist who does not work for it.

Immediately, Roj News Agency formed a team of lawyers to take legal measures with the aim of releasing him, but the Kurdistan Democratic Party, since the kidnapping of Suleiman Ahmed, 202 days ago, has not allowed the team of lawyers to see and meet him.

According to the laws of the caretaker government of South Kurdistan and the Iraqi government, any detained person has the right to disclose his whereabouts and appoint a lawyer for him. If the accused cannot appoint a lawyer, a lawyer will be appointed for him by the government, but the Kurdistan Democratic Party violated all the laws followed in southern Kurdistan and Iraq as well.
