The Minister of Interior in the Damascus government, Muhammad Khaled al-Rahmoun, arrived yesterday, in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, on a visit that will last for several days, according to what the Iraqi Ministry of Interior announced.

The Iraqi Minister of Interior, Abdul Amir Al-Shammari, said in a joint press conference held today with Al-Rahmoun at the ministry’s headquarters in Baghdad that a bilateral meeting was held with the minister and his accompanying delegation, indicating that the meeting witnessed the discussion of all the items on the agenda and resulted in the signing of a memorandum for security cooperation between the two countries.

Al-Shammari stated, “The memorandum included a number of articles related to cooperation between the two countries, most notably cooperation in the field of combating drugs, as well as controlling international borders, extraditing wanted persons, and combating organized crime and money laundering,” explaining that “all these articles and matters that were signed will enter into force.”

For his part, Al-Rahmoun said during the conference that he “discussed with the Iraqi Minister of the Interior this morning ways of cooperation in all fields, especially in the security field,” explaining that “the two countries are suffering from the phenomenon of terrorism and armed terrorist organizations with their various names.”
