The Kurdish issue is undergoing unprecedented political transformations, 103 years after the Treaty of Lausanne entrenched the division of Kurdistan. Developments range from dialogue in Turkey and negotiations in Syria to the continued constitutional experience in the federal Kurdistan Region of Iraq and ongoing Kurdish political activism in Iran.

An economic expert says reviving the Kirkuk–Baniyas oil pipeline would reshape part of the region's energy map by strengthening the strategic positions of Syria and Iraq, gradually reducing Turkish influence, and diminishing the importance of the Strait of Hormuz for Iran and China.
