Elderly Kurdish man assaulted in Afrin, family calls for accountability

An elderly Kurdish man was assaulted in the town of Jindires in the Afrin countryside, sustaining injuries. His family has called for those responsible to be held accountable.

Local sources said that Arif Hassan Dalo, 70, originally from the village of Hikaja in Jindires district and currently residing in Jindires, was assaulted earlier today by a man identified as Abu Mahmoud and four of his relatives from the Al-Manghawi family.

According to the sources, the assault stemmed from a long-standing dispute dating back to before 2015 involving other individuals from the village, stressing that Arif was not a party to the original conflict. The attackers allegedly beat him severely, leaving him with injuries, mainly to his face.

The sources said security personnel intervened and stopped the assault before taking both the alleged attackers and Arif to the Jindires police station to complete legal procedures and investigate the incident.

The sources also alleged that, following the assault, members of the Al-Manghawi family made derogatory remarks targeting Kurds and Kurdish symbols, while publicly issuing death threats in the streets of Jindires.

Arif Hassan Dalo's family called on the security authorities to intervene promptly and take legal action against all those involved in the assault, saying such measures would help preserve civil peace.
