Hamas announced on Monday the dissolution of the body that has administered the Gaza Strip for nearly two decades, in a move paving the way for a technocratic committee to take over civil affairs.

Ismail al-Thawabta, head of Hamas’s government media office, told Agence France-Presse that the head of the government emergency committee, Mohammed al-Farra, had formally submitted his resignation, and that the committee had been dissolved to facilitate the administrative and governmental transition to a national committee for Gaza’s management.

He added that the national committee for Gaza’s administration was established by the Peace Council founded by U.S. President Donald Trump when he mediated the ceasefire agreement between Hamas and Israel in October 2025.
